I didn't love Pena Palace when I was in Sintra. It looks great from a distance sitting on the hill and the area is definitely well worth visiting, especially the surrounding gardens. I just don't particularly recommend walking up to the palace – it was horribly, horribly busy when I was there (not even at peak season) and really nothing special up close.
As palaces go I'd recommend nearby Montserrate Palace instead, which is less famous and doesn't get nearly as many visitors. It's incredibly beautiful and serene, which makes for a far more romantic and relaxed experience.
My dream is to be like Rick Steve, traveling around the world and telling stories for future generations to read and listen too I like your work.
